Circle Of Light

This atmospheric phenomenon is called sundog or phantom sun, the scientific name is parhelion.

The real sun is in the middle of the light circle, with 2 phantom suns (sundogs) flanking it, one on each side.

It is caused by tiny ice crystals in the air, which bend the light that passes through them, creating this beautiful illusion.

The light “fan” above the halo is called the upper tangent arc.

Wishing everybody very happy spring 2014.

And a wonderful autumn to those in the Southern Hemisphere.

May it bring you many beautiful sights to admire and to photograph.
